Please join us to celebrate the arrival of spring at this very special garden venue for our annual ACCJ Kansai Spring Meishi Exchange. This year’s venue promises a very casual and relaxed atmosphere where you will be able to spend some time with our guests from a wide range of industries and cultures.
We expect a diverse mix of people from both the private and public sectors to attend, so please feel free to invite your co-workers and colleagues. Most importantly, please bring lots of business cards and a warm smile.
ACCJ Kansai is pleased to announce that the The Garden Place Soshuen team will help us welcome in spring. This year the theme is "Celebrating Spring at Heaven on Earth*”.
In the year 1934, a breathtakingly beautiful, genuine presentation of Japanese architecture was built in Mikage, Kobe as a villa of a former Zaibatsu family. Back then, such a three-story building was considered very rare. This residence miraculously survived World War II and subsequently transferred into the hands of a merchant of Chinese heritage.
This man became its new owner in 1946 and opened a Chinese restaurant in 1963 on the vast 1,600-tsubo grounds with a brook flowing through and seasonal trees vibrantly growing in the garden. “Heaven on earth” was what he had dreamt of. Thus, he named this place “Soshuen” after the beautiful garden in Suzhou and it soon turned into a well-established restaurant visited often by many celebrities and important figures.
And so, time went by and we are now in the Heisei Era. Today, this architecture that has even survived the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake continues to make history as The Garden Place Soshuen where a fusion of the modern colonial and East Asian tastes can be felt.
Mark your calendar, and see you on Thursday, April 13!
Space is limited, so sign up early.
*蘇州園（Soshuen) means; heaven and earth.
