Job Opening:
Media and Communications Specialist


Job Description:
The Media and Communications Specialist plays a central role in the development and execution of the ACCJ’s media engagement strategy. As the main point of contact for all media related communications and inquiries, the Media and Communications Specialist is responsible for cultivating the ACCJ’s relationship with key Japanese and foreign media and strategically engaging media to further the ACCJ’s mission. As a member of the Communications Department, the Specialist provides support as needed with key communications tools used to engage ACCJ members and stakeholders, including social media and the ACCJ website.​ 

Areas of Responsibilities:
Media
  • Manage the development and execution of the ACCJ’s media strategy.
  • Provide excellent customer service by serving as a resource to ACCJ Committee Leaders and members on how they may utilize media to further their committee’s goals and the goals of the ACCJ.
  • Effectively identify opportunities to further the ACCJ’s mission through media engagement and work with ACCJ members and staff to utilize opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with key media contacts by regularly liaising with network of media representatives and serving as the ACCJ’s point of contact for all media inquiries and communications. Manage database of Japanese and foreign media contacts and major press clubs.
  • Draft press releases and other media related material in both English and Japanese. Disseminate ACCJ press releases and other advocacy documents to appropriate contacts. Manage post-release communications and inquiries.
  • Develop press invitations to ACCJ events that open to the media. Disseminate invitations and follow-up with media contacts to encourage media attendance for relevant events.
  • Coordinate press conferences and other media events as needed.
  • Monitor Japanese and English press coverage of the ACCJ and issues related to the work of the ACCJ. Ensure ACCJ leadership and staff are informed of media coverage in a timely manner. Share appropriate coverage with the public using appropriate channels, such as the ACCJ website and social media.
Communications
  • Provide support as needed with the ACCJ website, including posting updates and reviewing Japanese text to ensure high-quality presentation of information for Japanese readers.
  • Support the Communications Department with Japanese language communications as necessary. This includes support with social media posts and text for ACCJ events flyers.

Requirements:
  • Strong interest in the mission and work of the ACCJ
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant full-time work experience
  • Superior Japanese written and oral communication skills at the native level (business-level English speaking and writing a plus)

  • Strong priority management skills and ability to juggle competing demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, verbally and in writing
  • A strong work ethic and ability to self-start
  • Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new tools
  • Customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand relevant issues to effectively engage with business leaders and media representatives
