It has been ten years since the 2008 banking collapse and the start of the global financial crisis. A decade later, the global economy is growing, and the global market bust of ten years ago seems like a distant memory.
As a governor of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2009, Chicago Booth professor Randall Kroszner took a lead role in developing responses to the global financial crisis. Similarly, as governor of the Bank of Japan from 2008 to 2013, Masaaki Shirakawa, AM ’77—the director and vice chairman of the Bank for International Settlements—spearheaded Japan’s efforts to return the financial system to stability. What lessons have we learned from the global financial crisis? Could it happen again? Join Chicago Booth in Tokyo as Professors Kroszner and Shirakawa share their insider insights into the global financial crisis and discuss their outlook for the global economy.
