3/14/2019 Well-Being and Productivity: How Well is Japan Measuring Up to InternationalBenchmarks?Read Now
Event Overview:
It’s a fact that happy workers are more productive. But why is that? Well-being at work is the outcome of various factors, one of which is hatarakikata kaikaku (working hours/schedule), something on which the administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has placed considerable emphasis in an effort to drive change in the workplace. In this session, Professor Sébastian Lechevalier, a labor economist and specialist on the Japanese economy, will talk about this and look at the progress being made in Japan’s push for workplace reform. Lechevalier, who is a professor at EHESS (the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris) and President of the France-Japan Society, will use the latest research by labor economists to compare Japanese practices with those common the United States and Europe. Participants will learn: • How employee well-being affects productivity in the workplace • The major determinants of employee well-being • How to interpret workstyle reform in Japan • The innovative human resource management practices found in Japanese companies Professor Lechevalier has presented at numerous international conferences and is the author of the book The Great Transformation of Japanese Capitalism(Routledge, 2014), translated into Japanese and published under the title「日本資本主義の大転換」(Iwanami Shoten, 2015).
