Preqin is a leading data source about the alternative investment industry. Assets under management in the global alternative investment industry reached $7.4 trillion last year, up 10.1% from 2014?s $6.9 trillion, according to a new report from Preqin. Please come join the ACCJ on May 10 to hear directly from Preqin about their findings.
In the company's 2016 Global Alternatives Reports, Preqin noted that the private capital industry in particular has grown over the past year, as almost every constituent asset class saw its AUM increase. The aggregate value of the portfolios of assets held by private capital fund managers is continuing to rise, according to Preqin, as GPs put more capital to work. Highlights from Preqin?s report include: Combined assets under management in hedge funds grew from $3 trillion to $3.2 trillion despite performance concerns. Private equity funds distributed a record $475 billion back to investors in 2014, and returned a further $189 billion in 1H 2015. Private real estate funds have an average rate of return of 16% in the three years to June 2015, similar to higher-risk buyout and venture capital strategies. 52% percent of infrastructure fund managers cited finding attractive investment opportunities as their biggest challenge in 2016.
