3/27/2018 [VENUE CHANGE] Space: The Final Investment Frontier? How Privatization is Making Space Attractive for Venture CapitalRead Now
Event Overview:
Ever since the launch of Sputnik, space has been the domain of governments and large aerospace corporations. This is no longer the case. Space is not only the final frontier - it is the frontline for international diplomacy and the venue for a new breed of entrepreneurs. Satellites, like most technologies, are rapidly decreasing in size and cost while simultaneously increasing in capability. This significant technological advancement, coupled with the advent of inexpensive on-demand launch vehicles, is leading to a democratization of space and an exciting opportunity for investors. Venture capital is finding Space an attractive investment sector with over 120 firms making investments in 2017. A total of $3.9 Billion was invested by personal investors into commercial space companies last year. Chris Blackerby has lived and worked in Japan for nearly six years, first for five years as the NASA Attaché for Asia based at the US Embassy in Tokyo, and for the last six months as COO of a venture space company, Astroscale. Chris will talk about the bilateral relationship in space between the US and Japan, international efforts at space utilization and exploration, and the burgeoning venture space ecosystem in Japan and the U.S. Frank Packard, Chair Christopher Wells, Jenifer Rogers, Vice Chairs ACCJ Alternative Investment Committee Timothy Conner, Ruth Marie Jarman, Aron Kremer, Robert Melson Jr., Chairs ACCJ Special Events Committee NOTE 1: This event is ON THE RECORD.
