Since the events of March 11 in Fukushima, most of Japan's nuclear generating capacity has remained idle and there has been little discussion about the merits of investing in nuclear-powered electricity generation plants. What is the case for investing in nuclear power, not only in developed economies such as Japan, but also in improving economies such as India?
Mr. Shuji Oshiro, from Sumitomo Corporation, will discuss the current state of nuclear power plant business activity around the world, covering current construction programs as well as plans for future nuclear power plants and new nuclear technologies.
Mr. Oshiro studied nuclear physics and engineering at Kyoto University before joining Sumitomo Corporation. For more than 30 years he has been involved in the nuclear business sector, including five years at what is now known as the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, and several years in Canada and the United States. In 2014, he joined Sumitomo Corporation Global Research Company as General Manager for the Environment & Energy Analysis Department. His research focuses on energy efficiency and economy in coal, natural gas, nuclear and renewables; deregulation in electric power sector and city gas sector; and climate change issues.
