Event Overview:

The Women in Business Committee has great pleasure in presenting an opportunity to hear Jyoti Chopra, Chief Diversity Officer and Head of Global Citizenship & Sustainability at BNY Mellon. Join us for breakfast on October 25, where Jyoti will talk about investment opportunities that close the gender gap. It is estimated that achieving parity across products and services in just five sectors - water, contraception, telecommunications, energy, and child care - could unlock US$300 billion in incremental annual spending by 2025. In broader terms, McKinsey estimates an additional US$12 trillion in annual GDP if the gender gap is narrowed. Yet despite such economic incentives, are we really any closer to achieving parity than in 1972 when the Equal Rights Amendment was passed in the U.S., or in 1999 when the Basic Act for Gender Equal Society took effect in Japan? What more can be done to unlock the potential that is equality?

Jyoti Chopra is the Head of Global Citizenship and Sustainability and Chief Diversity Officer for BNY Mellon. She joined the company in 2012 and is based in New York City. Jyoti is responsible for leading the company’s comprehensive award-winning diversity and inclusion program and promoting a culture of inclusion that creates pathways for the continued recruitment, development and advancement of a diverse workforce. She is a member of BNY Mellon’s Senior Leadership Team and is the company’s representative to the Global Talent and Diversity Council of the Asia Society.

BNY Mellon strives to uphold its responsibility to society and stakeholders, maximizing positive societal impact, protecting and enhancing the firm’s reputation, and promoting long-term thinking and responsible growth. BNY Mellon has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the last 4 consecutive years, and continues to raise the bar on diversity and inclusion progress and impact. It has been recognized for its leadership, commitment and achievement in the following ways:

  • Best Employer and Best Practices Company (with Global and Best of the Best distinctions) | Asia Society
  • 100% Corporate Equality Index  (11th consecutive year) | Human Rights Campaign
  • Bloomberg Financial Services Gender-Equality Index (2nd consecutive year) | Bloomberg
  • Most Powerful Women in Banking | American Banker
