9/28/2017 [FULLY BOOKED] Networking and Presentation - Investing in FinTech Startups Across Asia: Opportunities and PitfallsRead Now
This event is co-hosted by the Greek Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
Event Overview: In alternative investments, everyone is hunting for "alpha" and not "beta." Originally, these were the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. Come to learn how modern day Greeks are leading new investments with "alpha" generating potential. Spyridon Mentzas, the former Global Co-Head of Japanese Equities, and current Director (Investment Group) for Mizuho Securities Ltd, is launching a fund to invest in the early rounds of FinTech startups across the Asia Pacific region. Mizuho, showing confidence in their former Equities Head, will stay involved in the fund as an anchor investor. Often, successful outcomes involve investors being sensitive to local regulations, business practices, and culture. Sometimes, the successful outcomes involve transplanting and customizing ideas, and innovations from other tech startups into a local culture in a sensitive manner. Mr. Mentzas, an U.S.-educated, Japanese-raised, Greek national, will share his experiences related to the creation of the new fund, while discussing opportunities – and pitfalls – that must be spotted and acted upon, as well as the advantages that his Global Nomad upbringing have brought to his investment game. In addition to Mr. Mentzas' speech, there will be time for networking. Please join us for an evening of Greek themed food and wine. For more information about the speaker, please click here.
