Moominvalley Park at Lake Miyazawa in Hanno, Saitama Prefecture, was finally opened in mid-March, 2019 to very favourable reviews after more than five years in the making. Totally unlike other character based theme parks in Japan, Moominvalley Park has been drawing large numbers of Moomin fans of all ages from across Japan and other parts of Asia.
Robert Hirst, Chairman of Moomin Monogatari, the theme park operating company, and former chairman of FinTech Global Inc., its largest shareholder, worked closely with Moomin Characters Oy in Finland to help turn a dream into reality. He will share insights into the challenges that were faced in finding a suitable location, designing a facility for which there was no existing model to base it on, funding the project and finding the skills and personnel to operate it once it was completed. About our Speaker: Robert Hirst is a former investment banker with many years of experience working in Japan and other parts of Asia. A former vice president of Citicorp and the head of AIG Financial Products in Asia, he served as chairman of FinTech Global Inc. for over ten years until his retirement last December. He remains a senior advisor to the company. Robert has an MA from Cambridge University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Karl H. Hahne and Kiran S.
