11/13/2018 [Registration Deadline Extended!] Japanese Women Have Caught Up and Surpassed Their US Counterparts in Labor Force Participation!Read Now
Event Overview:
The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) is excited to announce a special joint luncheon with the World Trade Center San Diego, which is bringing the region’s first large-scale business delegation to Japan. Some 50 business and academic representatives will join a congressional delegation on the five-day Cities of the Future: San Diego Trade Delegation to Japan mission from November 11 to 15. Japan is San Diego County’s top source of foreign direct investment, accounting for nearly 12,000 local jobs across 407 firms, and one goal of this trip is to look for new business opportunities. Part of the agenda includes a joint luncheon with the ACCJ on November 13. Japan has made considerable efforts to empower and engage women—both in the workplace and in society—over the past few decades, and participation in the workforce by prime-age Japanese women (those aged 25 to 54) now exceeds that of the United States, according to findings by the Brookings Institute. In this lively panel discussion, members of the San Diego delegation will join Japan business leaders to explore the Brookings Institute research. ACCJ Alternative Investment Committee Chair Frank Packard will moderate the session featuring five fantastic women from different industries and fields: Janice Brown, Founder of Brown Law Group and Chair of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation Kim Becker, CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Flory Ellis, Director of Global Expansion at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Emi Takemura, Co-founder of FutureEdu Tokyo, Fellow at Mistletoe, Inc., and Co-founder of and Advisor at Peatix.com Mariko Bando, Chancellor of Showa Women’s University Interspersed with anecdotes from the panel members’ own varied experiences, this discussion promises to offer a lively exchange and provide food for thought. If you are interested in meeting new people, expanding your business network, and exploring new business opportunities, please make sure to sign up quickly as seating is limited.
