Turning around Japanese companies does not always happen because of external factors. Sometimes internal disruptions and managerial innovation turn them around. The Dwango story is an “internal turn around” narrative that includes Japanese women achieving results that men could not. We are pleased to welcome Yuriya Komatsu, Dwango Chief Financial Officer, to speak to the ACCJ. In less than one year after moving from institutional investor and financial advisor to becoming the Dwango’s CFO, Komatsu developed a restructuring plan that turned the company’s operating profit from a loss of JPY 10 billion into a gain of JPY 1 billion. DWANGO Co., Ltd.is a telecommunications and media company based in Japan that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kadokawa Dwango Corporation. The company was spun off from a U.S.-based service offering online multiplayer for video games. DWANGO (which stands for Dial-up Wide-Area Network Game Operation), runs the popular Japanese video sharing site Niconico. The company also is the 100% owner of the game developer Spike Chunsoft. Come to learn how a woman executive has revived a Japanese brand and enhanced the corporate value of the entire enterprise consistent with good ESG!
