Event Overview:
Grab has recently established its leadership as the premier ride-sharing player in SE Asia via a flurry of successful dealmaking with Uber, SoftBank, Didi and others. It deftly traded equity for collaboration (rather than competition). Now Grab is geared up to expand into food delivery and the payments spheres based on leveraging its leading edge payments platform. By establishing a brand and pattern of usage across a customer base, Grab is well positioned in markets with low credit card penetration to become the default payment methodology. As a central player in its deal-making charges, Ming Maa will share the Grab story to date and its strategic vision for the future. Ming Maa is the Group President of Grab, responsible for corporate development activities, including strategic partnerships and investment opportunities, managing the company’s overall capital structure, and other corporate activities. He joined Grab from SoftBank Group Corp., where he oversaw SoftBank’s investments in the ridesharing and e-commerce industries, including SoftBank’s investments in Grab. Ming was also previously a Principal at Ancora Capital Management Pte Ltd based in Jakarta. Between 2000-2012, Ming was a Vice President in Goldman Sachs’ Merchant Banking Division, the firm’s global private equity group, based in Tokyo, New York and San Francisco. Ming received his BS and MS degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
