11/13/2017 Global Government Relations as a Driver for Growth in a Rapidly Changing Political EnvironmentRead Now
Event Overview:
21st century business leaders are having to navigate turbulent times. Even as we grapple with the ongoing impact of Brexit and the victory of Donald Trump last year, Spain faces the possibility of independence for Catalonia, a far-right party has entered government in Austria, and even in Japan, we have just been through a snap election which precipitated a lightning political reconfiguration. Even in advanced economies, a fast-changing and volatile political environment has become the new normal. In this sort of world, the role of government relations and public affairs in global business has never been more important to ensure growth and success. A successful public affairs and government relations strategy must focus not just on shareholders, but a wider range of stakeholders. It has also to address key questions: how to tackle the political and policy changes and issues that arise, how to monitor, prioritize and manage the cycle of issues affecting your business, how to deal with crises when they occur, and how to respond when your reputation is on the line? In an environment when transparency and trust are critical, public affairs is more than a staff function; it is an essential skill for all business leaders. Please join Dr. Harsanyi, an internationally renowned government relations and public affairs leader, as she shares her broad experience and insights to address these questions. Dr. Harsanyi will also discuss the new norms of government relations, the extent to which there are universal principles for public affairs and government relations, which must be applied locally, how corporate culture and the practice of public affairs in different countries can affect multinational businesses’ approach to government, and what this could mean for business and government in Japan.
