Event Overview:

Ever wonder how service providers and vendors get a piece of the major global sports business including the Olympics? "Demystifying Procurement" will feature experts from the global sports event and procurement sectors who will provide insights and information about the big business of big sporting events. This is particularly timely, as we are on the eve of such major upcoming events in Japan as the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the World Masters Games 2021.

Akifumi Okada, Director Strategy at EY Japan, is a procurement specialist. Aki plays a senior role in EY's team which directly supports procurement activities for TOCOG (Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) and the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Aki will deliver a presentation on the current status of procurement for Tokyo 2020 and offer an EY and personal perspective on how best to support successful delivery of the Games by effective private sector engagement.

Dennis Mills, is the founder and Chief Executive of Major Events International (MEI). Since forming MEI 12 years ago, his experience has included working in support of agencies delivering international major sports events, and providing in-country support for games-specific and city-level opportunities for local and international companies. Dennis has been involved in every Summer Olympics since Beijing in 2008. MEI Japan was launched in 2017 in anticipation of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, 2020 Summer Olympics and the World Masters Games 2021, extending into the Asian Games 2026 and with high expectations of a Sapporo Winter Olympics bid for 2030.

Dennis will provide a market orientation of the pattern of major events, the scope and scale of opportunities and what it takes to succeed in winning business in the specialist major event.
