Event Overview:
Dr. BT Slingsby will give his insights, experiences, and lessons learned as a catalyst for public private partnership (PPP) and external R&D, and provide a view on how this model can be applied to other areas where there is a need of new innovations. Dr. Slingsby is a founding CEO of the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT), the world's first PPP fund for global health R&D. GHIT was established in 2013 as an international PPP between Japanese pharmaceutical companies, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and two Japanese ministries. GHIT’s innovative financing model was conceived and institutionalized by the private sector’s leadership, and GHIT has catalyzed open innovation between Japanese and global entities to create life saving medicines through its investment. Utilizing not only internal but also external R&D resources is becoming an increasingly significant trend in pharmaceutical industry to drive innovations. John W.
