The ACCJ Women in Business Committee is pleased to welcome Debbie Howard, Chairman of CarterJMRN KK, who will talk about her career and her experiences, focusing on her journey as an entrepreneur. Debbie founded a market research business, JMRN, in Japan in 1989, originally working from her own apartment, and graduating to an office building located nearby over time. During the time as she built her business, she was asked to run for president of the ACCJ – and was chosen to be the first woman president for the Chamber.
Debbie now splits her time between Texas (where her life partner holds the fort), and Japan as she continues to help clients navigate the vagaries of the Japanese market. Always open to new opportunities and ideas, Debbie is currently involved in changing and magnifying the conversation about family caregiving in society through several initiatives, including setting up a support service for family caregivers based on the experiences she and her sisters shared while caring for their mother when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.
Debbie’s journey as a young foreign woman, not fluent in Japanese, to start a business in Japan in the late 1980s are a real lesson to us all as we look to grow not only our careers, but to bring new ideas into this marketplace. Debbie is a sought-after and entertaining speaker, and will be sure to share some great insights as she covers:
