4/18/2018 Breakfast in the Board Room: Write Your Own Rules, Driving Positive TransformationRead Now
Event Overview:
The ACCJ Women in Business Committee is pleased to welcome Laura Lane, UPS’s President for Global Public Affairs, to share her experience as a global female leader drawing from her experiences as a diplomat in Rwanda and Colombia; as a trade negotiator; and through her ongoing support for women’s development around the world. Her career stories demonstrate the power of positivism and how women can thrive to succeed even in the most challenging of environments. Ms. Lane was the economic and political-military affairs officer at the American Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda from 1993-1994. She led the evacuation effort of American citizens from Rwanda in April 1994 with the outbreak of the civil war and returned in August as political advisor to U.S. forces providing humanitarian relief to Rwandan refugees. Ms. Lane also served as economic and consular officer in Bogota, Colombia from 1990-1992. In her state department career, she was the recipient of two Superior Honor awards and a Meritorious Honor award. In her current role at UPS, Laura champions UPS’s partnerships with governments and other stakeholders to help women realize their full potential through programs such as the Girl Scout Council in the U.S., the Global Partnership Initiative for Refugees International, and a Women Exporter initiative to support women entrepreneurs in participating in international trade. Laura’s experience is an inspiration to us that sometimes we need to re-write the rules to pursue our passion and fight for the changes that we believe in.
