Event Overview:
Investing requires much due diligence including an understanding of the laws that affect your business. One of the major considerations in Japan is the Act on Protection of Personal Information ("APPI"), which has been amended, and includes the implementation of the "My Number" system. How does this influence your decision to invest in Japan? And does the amendment change what we thought we knew about APPI and My Number? Ms. Masako Banno will guide us through this topic emphasizing the practical approach for most firms to prepare for dealing with My Number, as well as the amendment of the Act on Protection of Personal Information. Masako Banno is an attorney at law of Okuno & Partners. She was admitted to the Japanese Bar in 2004 and the New York Bar in 2014. She handles a wide variety of international corporate legal issues, focusing in particular on governmental regulations, including financial regulation, data protection and employment law. She has served as a senior legal counsel to the Japan Securities Dealers Association for three years, where she had first-hand experience in legal compliance and data protection of the financial industry. Masako obtained her Global Business LL.M. degree at the University of Washington School of Law in 2012. She is Deputy Director-General of the Tokyo Bar Association's Gender-Equal Participation Committee. Kenneth Lebrun, Chair Shaun Dubin, Scott D. Sugino, Vice Chairs A.
