Both institutional and individual shareholders in Japanese public companies are becoming more actively engaged with the companies in their portfolios. This includes submitting proposals to be voted upon Annual General Meetings of those companies. Part of this engagement is coming from the roles and responsibilities outlined in Japan’s Stewardship Code, while another motivation comes from increasingly better educated shareholders who wish to propose changes to increase shareholder and enterprise value.
This ACCJ Forum will explore the current status of shareholder proposals and the challenges posed by shareholder inactivism in a neutral and balanced manner. Speakers include representatives from the FSA, Monex Securities and a major Japanese business organization, as well as fund managers that have made proposals to corporate management.
