Event Overview:
We are pleased to host Dr. Haruo Shimada, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Tokyo Metropolitan University. At this event, Dr. Shimada will provide an overview and evaluation of the last 5 years of Abenomics. He will also go into depth on the serious problem of accumulated fiscal debt in Japan and share his proposal to address this issue. This event comes as we enter the fifth year of Abenomics, which started in 2013. During the first phase between 2013 and 2015, three arrows were deployed: monetary, fiscal and structural reform policies. In the second phase, an additional three arrows focused on increasing labor force participation and increasing productivity were launched. Overall, Abenomics has achieved some positive results as a short run economic policy. Looking to the long-term, Japan's accumulated fiscal debt will become a serious issue, which could lead to a fiscal and economic collapse unless a powerful remedy is executed. We look forward to this discussion and hope you will join us. For more information on Dr. Haruo Shimada, please click here.
