Healthy sunlight- What it is, what it can do for global health and how can we integrate it into buildings? The ACCJ is pleased to host Karl Hahne, CEO of Hafele Japan, to speak on the importance of healthy sunlight, the urgent risk the absence of sunlight presents, and the emerging business opportunities around this issue.
It is commonly understood and agreed up that UV A/B must be cut. Unfortunately, the statement is half wrong. Too much is harmful, and potentially life-threatening, but avoiding it all together will also hurt us. NASA understands this problem clearly and has recommended health guidelines for addressing the absence of UV A/B and the resulting vitamin D deficiency. However, no such guidelines exist for large parts of the urban population that completely live inside and remain protected from UV A/B when going outside, or for animals kept in mass animal farms. The results are increasing sickness levels in urban populations as well as increasing antibiotic resistance in mass-farmed animals. In his presentation, Mr. Hahne will introduce the various effects sunlight (and its absence) has on global health, share practical guidelines for how to get enough sunlight in your daily life, and introduce the architectural innovations and elements needed to distribute optimized sunlight inside of buildings. By essentially creating stand-alone structures or high-rise buildings with an SPF15 protected sunroom built into every apartment or office, urban populations will get the sunlight they need to be happier, healthier, and more productive. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Mr. Karl Hahne has been in Japan 29 years. He founded and sold his advertising and online agency after 12 years, spent 4 years as partner in the joint venture, and assumed his current position of CEO of Hafele Japan 10 years ago. He has been active in the ACCJ since 1999, as Chair of Independent Business Committee, founder of the now called Sales Development Committee, and is currently serving as Co-Chair on the Real Estate and Retail Committee.
